Melktert (Milk Tart) Overnight Oats

Creamy, cinnamon-dusted oats inspired by South Africa’s classic melktert gentle, milky and nostalgic.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp plain yoghurt
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Method
 

  1. Stir the oats and chia seeds in a jar.
  2. Add the milk, yoghurt, vanilla and honey and mix well keep it on the milky side.
  3. Seal and refrigerate overnight.
  4. Dust generously with cinnamon in the morning, just like a melktert.

Notes

Use extra milk for that signature soft, custardy texture. A crushed Tennis biscuit on top nods to the crust.
