Yes and for most people, cold is the preferred way to eat them. The overnight soaking process softens the oats perfectly to a creamy, pudding-like texture. If you prefer them warm, microwave for 60–90 seconds and stir before eating. Both versions are delicious.
Overnight oats stay fresh for up to 5 days when stored in a sealed container in the fridge. This makes them perfect for weekly meal prep make 5 jars on Sunday, and breakfast is handled Monday through Friday. Add fresh fruit toppings in the morning only.
You can use instant oats, but rolled oats produce a significantly better texture creamier, with more structure. Steel-cut oats also work but require at least 12 hours of soaking and produce a chewier result. Our go-to: Jungle Oats rolled oats from any SA supermarket.
Yes. Overnight oats are high in beta-glucan fibre (which supports gut health and reduces LDL cholesterol), provide slow-release energy that prevents blood sugar spikes, and can be high in protein when prepared with Greek yoghurt and nut butter. They are one of the most nutritionally complete quick breakfast options available.
All our base recipes use ingredients available at Pick n Pay, Woolworths, Checkers, Spar and Dis-Chem. Jungle Oats are at every major SA supermarket. Superfoods like baobab and moringa powder are best sourced from Faithful to Nature or Wellness Warehouse nationwide.
The master ratio is 1:1 oats to liquid plus yoghurt for creaminess. Specifically: 1/2 cup Jungle Oats + 1/2 cup liquid (milk, Rooibos, oat milk) + 1/4 cup plain yoghurt. This ratio produces one perfect serving. Scale up proportionally for batch prep.
Add 1 tablespoon of chia seeds to any recipe. Chia seeds absorb 10x their weight in liquid overnight, creating a naturally thick, pudding-like consistency without affecting the flavour. Alternatively, reduce your liquid to 1/3 cup instead of 1/2 cup on your next batch.
